From day one, the progressive movement has tried to discredit the Tea Party movement by calling its members racists, extremists and AstroTurf.

With the midterm elections approaching, the Obama Administration is desperate to motivate their base:

White House and Congressional Democratic strategists are trying to energize dispirited Democratic voters over the coming six weeks, in hopes of limiting the party’s losses and keeping control of the House and Senate.

According to the New York Times, Obama’s political advisers have come up with several suggestions including an advertising campaign criticizing Tea Party candidates and the movement.

Directly challenging the Tea Party movement in a national advertising campaign will backfire on Obama.  This effort will only motivate this political force.
