Despite Midterm Election Results Obama Doubles Down On Climate Change

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

It’s clear the results of the midterm elections have had no impact on President Obama. Instead of looking for areas to compromise with the new Republican Congress, Obama is doubling down on his radical agenda.

During his trip to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting (APEC), Obama announced a climate change agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping that requires both countries to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Under the agreement, the U.S. promised to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 26 to 28 percent lower than 2005 levels by 2025 and China agreed to level its carbon based emissions in 2030.

China also promised to generate 20 percent of its energy from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

While the agreement may bolster Obama’s image with his environmental base, it is only going to alienate the new Republican Congress. Responding to the climate change deal, House Majority Leader John Boehner said, “the latest example of the president’s crusade against affordable, reliable energy that is already hurting jobs and squeezing middle-class families.”

Republicans must reject the climate change deal because it is a lousy deal for the U.S. China doesn’t have to cap its carbon emissions until 2030 but the U.S. must reduce its emissions now.

In summary, the U.S. must go on a fossil fuel diet now while China gets to gorge on coal, natural gas and oil for 16 years. China gets the economic benefit of cheap and reliable energy while the U.S. suffers the pain of higher energy prices.

Additionally, China’s goal for 20 percent of energy from alternative sources is a monumental task since it’s about the same amount of electricity being generated in the U.S. today.

The agreement with China was only Obama’s first step during his post election trip.

Adding to his climate change agenda, Obama announced that the U.S. will give $3 billion to the United Nations Green Climate Fund. The climate fund goal is to provide money to assist developing nations in dealing with the consequences of climate change and to use less carbon intensive fuels.

The Republican Congress must stop Obama’s harmful climate change agenda by defunding the president’s reckless policies.
