Al Sharpton Decries ‘White Hollywood’ Following Oscar Nominations
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Al Sharpton never fails to find a way into the headlines.
Sharpton’s latest outrage surrounds the lack of racial diversity in the recently announced Oscar nominations.
Sharpton is particularly perturbed that none of the other black actors or actresses in the movie Selma were nominated for the coveted gold statue.
Reacting to the nominations, Sharpton released a statement via his National Action Network:
The lack of diversity in today’s Oscar nominations is appalling and while it is good that Selma was nominated for ‘Best Picture,’ it’s ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations. With all of the talent in Selma and other Black movies this year, it is hard to believe that we have less diversity in the nominations today than in recent history.
Sharpton is forming an emergency task force on diversity in Hollywood and he is planning to address this issue with Sony Pictures executive Amy Pascal. He also threatened a “possible action around the Academy Awards.”
Never missing an opportunity to issue a sound bite Sharpton added, “The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets.”
How long will it be before Hollywood caves to Sharpton’s antics? After all, he already has a TV show.
