According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics , there are 13.1 million unemployed Americans. Other sources estimate that 2.5 million Americans have stopped looking for work.
The unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent nationally. White and hispanic unemployment rates also dropped to 7.5 percent and 11 percent, respectively.
Black unemployment, however, went up to 15.8 percent, a rate that is twice as high as white unemployment. Even worse is the unemployment rate among black teens that reached a staggering 42.1 percent, up from 36.9 percent.
America has the highest sustained unemployment since the 1930’s under President Obama’s leadership.
Obama’s stimulus plan was purported to get the economy back on track, create millions of new jobs, and keep unemployment at or below 8 percent.
