If the bureaucrats in New York have their way, gas stations will be mandated to install generators as a backup power source in the event another storm like Hurricane Sandy wipes out electrical power for days.
Most U.S. gas stations are independently owned small businesses and such a law, if passed, would result in an exorbitant expense for gas station owners.
Of course, having a backup power source would put a gas station at a competitive advantage during a blackout, however, the free-market should dictate whether or not the owner would like to invest in the installation and regular maintenance of a power generator, not some bureaucrat who most likely has never taken the risk to invest in a small business.
