Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Last spring’s reports on the damage done by unidentified hackers who stole personal information from millions of Americans are actually a lot worse than originally thought. It is now being reported that over 21.5 million Americans could be affected by this security breach.
The Office of Personnel Management announced Wednesday that 5.6 million people are now estimated to have had their fingerprint information stolen.
That number was originally thought to be about 1.1 million, OPM said in a statement. About 21.5 million individuals had their Social Security Numbers and other sensitive information affected by the hack.
Whether or not the hacking was conducted by China is still yet to be determined. So far, the only reported damage done as a result of the hack was to the U.S. government’s pride.
