Commentary: Biden Will Worsen Pandemic
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Tom Borelli, Ph.D., blasted former Vice President and Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden over his initial pandemic response in a Newsmax commentary, “Biden Will Worsen Pandemic,” originally posted at Newsmax.com.
Dr. Borelli also urged American voters not to be distracted by Bob Woodard’s new book critical of President Trump called “Rage,” in a video commentary.
Biden Will Worsen Pandemic
In a desperate effort to gain a political advantage over President Trump, Democratic Party presidential nominee, former U.S. Senator and Vice President Joe Biden is misleading the nation about his ability to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Biden jumped on news reports that grossly twisted the meaning of excerpts from Bob Woodward’s forthcoming book “Rage,” claiming President Trump hid information from Americans.
During remarks in Warren, Michigan Biden said the president was aware of the risk the virus posed and he did not execute his job “on purpose” resulting in ” . . . a life-and-death betrayal of the American people.”
Biden went on to claim if the president moved faster to protect America by one week or two earlier, between 36,000 and 54,000 lives would have been saved.
Pushing the rhetoric further on CNN Biden repeated his claim that thousands of lives were lost due to the president’s inaction.
Full stop.
Joe Biden can’t realistically and credibly criticize President Trump for moving slowly on addressing the current pandemic.
That’s because the president issued a travel ban from China on Jan. 31 — a leadership decision Biden and others slammed as “xenophobic.”
The day following the China travel ban, Biden declared, “We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering,” in a tweet responding to the president’s action.
Here is the truth, Biden would have allowed travel from China to continue during the pandemic thereby allowing thousands of Chinese including COVID-19 positive individuals into the U.S.
Months later, Biden reversed his view of the China travel ban on April 3 — finally recognizing the president’s wisdom.
Biden’s reversal is an acknowledgment he was dead wrong with his early criticism of President Trump and the two month delay would have resulted in many more deaths — far more than the estimate he touts on the campaign trail.
Moreover, the 47-year career-politician’s ignorance of infectious disease epidemiology is staggering. This was clearly evident in his attack on the China travel ban.
Biden’s tweet emphasized the need to follow the science, yet he’s clueless when it comes to science.
The best way to stop an epidemic is to isolate those with the disease from spreading it to others — that’s what the China travel ban did — a decision Biden slammed.
Additionally, Biden’s knee jerk response of “xenophobia,” was based on leading with race card politics — not science.
As far as President Trump’s concern about not wanting to panic the public, Biden also said, “It’s not a time to panic about coronavirus,” at a February campaign event in South Carolina.
Biden’s criticism of travel bans is not limited to China.
Barack Obama’s former vice president also blasted President Trump’s decision to halt travel from Europe.
Shortly after President Trump made the call to stop travel from Europe, Biden issued a critical comment in a tweet, “A wall will not stop the coronavirus. Banning all travel from Europe — or any other part of the world — will not stop it. This disease could impact every nation and any person on the planet — and we need a plan to combat it.”
Again, Biden is repeating his gross ignorance of basic infectious disease epidemiology.
President Trump’s decisions to issue bans with respect to travel from both China and Europe was backed by Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Dr. Fauci described the China ban as “a very smart move,” and the ban on travel from Europe, was “ahead of the curve.”
Fauci also disputed Bob Woodward’s claim that the president was downplaying the pandemic risk. Fauci even said, “I didn’t get any sense that he was distorting anything. In my discussions with him, they were always straightforward about the concerns that we had.”
Joe Biden is trying his best to exploit the COVID-19 pandemic by twisting his record on the virus. But the truth is, is that his open border strategy to address a pandemic is a recipe for disaster.
