Associated Press Story on Nursing Student Murder Misleads the Public

Story Fails to Identify Illegal Migrants as a Risk for Young College Students

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The alleged killer of Laken Hope Riley is in the U.S. illegally but the risk posed by men entering the U.S. illegally was ignored in a story by the Associated Press. Riley’s body was found on the University of Georgia campus.

Fox News reported Jose Antonio Ibarra was charged with a number of crimes including with “… malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call and concealing the death of another…”.

During a news briefing, the University of Georgia Police Chief Jeffrey L. Clark said Ibarra is not a U.S. citizen and his immigration status was not known.

Fox 5 Atlanta reported on Riley’s murder.

According to a news report, Ibarra claimed asylum after crossing the Texas border in 2023 and was arrested in New York for endangering a child.

While searching for the murder suspect police arrested Diego Ibarra, Jose’s brother, for having a fake green card. The brothers are from Venezuela.

An Associated Press story about Riely’s murder, “The killing of a nursing student out for a run highlights the fears of solo female athletes,” focused on the dangers of female athletes running alone and not the risks facing the public by non-citizens. The story didn’t mention the alleged killer was a non-citizen.

Making matters worse, the Associated Press story mentioned the killing of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts in 2018 but failed to mention her killer was Cristhian Bahena Rivera who entered the U.S. illegally.

The Associated Press isn’t the only news source that failed to focus on the dangers posed by illegal migrants. Jake Tapper of CNN used his platform to mention how Republicans will use the nursing student’s death as a way to attack President Biden.

Tapper decided to take the political angle instead of dealing with the consequences of sanctuary cities and an open border.

Media Research Center’s NewsBusters put together a highlight reel of the media avoiding accountability for President Biden’s open border policy.

The clear conclusion is non-citizen men are the risk for college aged young women but the Associated Press buried it and other media outlets are failing to call out the root cause responsible for the tragic deaths of young women.
