Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Caught red-handed! Debbie Wasserman Schultz is resigning as chairwoman of the DNC after leaked emails exposed an organization-wide conspiracy against Bernie Sanders.
Democrats are known for keeping their intra-party fighting behind closed doors, but not anymore. This development shatters the party’s perception of “unity” going into the convention…. though truthfully, they didn’t look too unified in the first place. Bernie supporters are still pretty heated about his endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
In a written statement, the controversial party leader said she was “privileged to serve as the DNC Chair for five and a half years.”
She said her first priority is serving the people of her Florida congressional district while stressing the importance of helping elect Hillary Clinton, adding: “Going forward, the best way for me to accomplish those goals is to step down as Party Chair at the end of this convention.”
She said she would still “open and close the convention,” which begins Monday in Philadelphia, and address delegates “about the stakes involved in this election,” in her role as party chair.
The leaked emails are just the final nail in the coffin for Debbie Wasserman Schultz, after a long history of manipulating DNC policies and funds to give the Clinton Political Machine a competitive edge.
Democratic strategist Donna Brazile will act as interim chairwoman until after the election.
Bernie Sanders is set to speak at the DNC tonight. It should be very interesting to hear what he says, and whether or not his comments change after these emails made their way to the surface of the 2016 election coverage.
