Last week, President Trump pardoned former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Arpaio was convicted for ignoring a court order instructing him to halt the holding of individuals thought to be illegal aliens.
Reaction to the president’s decision was swift from Democrats and Republicans.
Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein said Trump showed “disregard for the rule of law.”
Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer injected race into the matter, tweeting that Arpaio’s actions were “The definition of racism and bigotry.”
Republican Senator John McCain said the president’s pardon “undermines his claim for the respect of rule of law.”
Arpaio was charged with a misdemeanor with the possibility of six months in jail.
Former President Obama commuted jail sentences for a traitor, Army Pvt. Bradley Manning, and a terrorist, FALN top leader Oscar Lopez Rivera.
To put things in perspective, Manning was serving a 35-year sentence and Rivera a 70-year sentence.
