Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Answer – not for her experience!
Following on the heels of Hillary Clinton whining about being “broke” after her husband’s second term as president, we now find out that Chelsea Clinton was paid $600,000 a year by NBC News for her role as a special correspondent.
A 2011 story in The New York Times described how then president of NBC News Steve Capus decided to hire Ms. Clinton:
Mr. Capus said he had met with Ms. Clinton and had a long conversation that began with a simple question. “I asked her: ‘What are you interested in doing?’ ”
Ms. Clinton told him, he said, that during her mother’s campaign for president in 2008, she had been moved by stories of people making personal contributions.
“What we talked about was if she were to come on board that’s the kind of thing she would be interested in doing. We knew she wasn’t going to do the lead story. But having somebody who was going to do really captivating feature assignments for the ‘Making a Difference’ franchise really kind of synced up,” Mr. Capus said.
Right… everybody gets hired by meeting with a president of a company for a whimsical idea on what we would like to do. That is not how the real world works.
The rest of us get hired by interviewing for an existing position and hope to beat other candidates with our experience.
Obviously, this position and salary was not for Chelsea’s experience but it designed a bond with the Clinton’s and perhaps serves as some type of investment or insurance policy in case Hillary becomes president.
This obscene salary also exposes the tight relationship between the media and Washington, D.C. insiders.
Also consider how the relationship between media companies and the political elites affect news coverage. If a news network is going to overpay a member of the political class just think about the gentle news coverage the family will get, especially if they are in power.
The crony relationship between media organizations and the political class threatens our liberty.
