Senator Bernie Sanders Earned Over $1 Million In Two Consecutive Years
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) made over $1 million for the second year in a row according to financial disclosures.
Sanders is known for slamming the wealthy and advocates for socialist wealth distribution policies.
Valley News reports:
For the second year in a row, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ income topped six figures.
A recent financial disclosure report shows the junior Vermont senator made nearly $1.06 million in 2017. Most of his income — $885,767 — came from advances and royalties, according to the report filed in May.
Sanders earned $174,000 for his service in the Senate.
A political adviser for Sanders defended the Senator’s huge income:
Jeff Weaver, the senator’s senior political adviser, said in an interview with VtDigger that questions about whether Sanders’ newfound wealth undermines his message about wealth inequality were “ridiculous.”
“That was a pretty funny question, Anne,” Weaver said. “Bernie Sanders continues to fight for working class people across this country so I think it’s a pretty ridiculous question.”
According to news reports, Sanders is contemplating running again for president in 2020.
Sanders’ wealth also includes a vacation home.
The Washington Post reports:
Bernie Sanders does not like fancy-schmancy things. He isn’t a huge fan of gazillionaires, tuxedos or any of the highfalutin trappings of society’s economic ills. This, of course, made him a hero among the country’s growing socialist movement. So when news came that the former presidential candidate bought a $575,000 vacation home for his family, the hypocrisy police were ready to pounce in all caps.
The Sanders family’s “new waterfront crib has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront,” according to the Vermont newspaper Seven Days, which broke the news on Monday. Sanders’s spokesman, Michael Briggs, told us the home is 1,800 square feet (hardly a mansion). Jane O’Meara Sanders, the senator’s wife, said she had “always hoped” to buy a home in the area, which has more of a country village vibe than Hamptons feel.
Yahoo News reports:
Sen. Bernie Sanders’s former campaign manager says the Vermont independent is taking a good look at whether he should attempt a second presidential campaign.
“He is considering another run for the presidency,” Jeff Weaver said in an interview with C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” on Tuesday when asked whether Sanders’s supporters would get to vote for him in 2020. “And when the time comes, I think we’ll have an answer to that, but right now, he’s still considering it.”
Sanders is a typical left-wing politician – he accumulates wealth while criticizing the rich.
