Remember When Bill Clinton Commemorated the “Confederate States of America” on the Arkansas Flag?
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is calling for the removal of the Confederate flag from the state house, following the tragic murder of 9 black church members in Charleston.
The removal of the flag has been the center of a national debate in the days following the outrageous incident, which sparked a flashback for some in the media to then-Governor Bill Clinton’s actions to honor the Confederate legacy in his home state of Arkansas.
As the fight to remove the Confederate flag from the state House grounds in South Carolina heats up, politicians are weighing in on the debate…
But while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has weighed in on the gun control aspect of the national discussion, the leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination has remained silent on the flag controversy.
In 1987, when her husband was governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton signed Act 116 that stated “The blue star above the word “ARKANSAS” is to commemorate the Confederate States of America.”
I wonder what Bill Clinton would have to say about Act 116 today. Of course, Democrats love to re-write history with the benefit of hindsight. I can almost picture the conversation between Bill and members of the press in my mind:
Reporter: Did you support Act 116 commemorating the Confederate States of America during your tenure as Governor of Arkansas?
Bill: That really depends. I mean, what does “commemorate” really mean, anyway?
Reporter: If “commemorate” is the celebration of a memory of the Confederate States of America, is that what you did?
Bill: It really depends on what the definition of “is” is…… Look over there! Global warming!
