Lunch Break Read: Baltimore and the Cancer of Identity Politics

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Grab your sandwich and check out this must-read article, “Baltimore and the Cancer of Identity Politics,” on ConservativeReview.com. It’s authored by Jeffrey Lord, a former Reagan White House political director.

Here’s a preview:

“The Mayor of Baltimore is a black woman.

Her predecessor was a black woman who took over from the white liberal Martin O’Malley. Who took over from another black mayor. Who took over from another black mayor.

Which is to say, including today’s Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, four of the last mayors of Baltimore have been black, two women and two men. In addition, the City Council president is a black man, one of the black majority on the City Council. And the police? So too is the police commissioner black.

Yet, there was a Baltimore City Council member – a black man – standing in front of a television camera as his city was on fire saying that the problem in Baltimore was no opportunity. How can this be?

… My colleague Daniel Horowitz, a native Baltimorean, nails the problem exactly. Liberalism has had free reign in Baltimore for decades and decades – whether the mayor was black or white.”
