Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was found in his room this morning at a West Texas ranch after dying of what is reported to be natural causes. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scalia family during this time.
Arguably the most conservative Justice of my lifetime, the Constitution – and the United States – has lost one of its greatest defenders of freedom.
In a generation where legislating from the bench – rather than interpreting the Constitution in accordance with both legal precedent and original intent – has become commonplace, Scalia stood apart. His devotion to duty and unwavering pursuit of the truth will be sorely missed.
Governor Gregg Abbott released the following statement this afternoon:
“Justice Antonin Scalia was a man of God, a patriot, and an unending defender of the writ Constitution and the rule of law. He was the solid rock who turned away so many attempts to depart from and distort the Constitution. His fierce loyalty to the Constitution set an unmatched example, not just for judges and lawyers, but for all Americans. We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the rule of law. Cecelia and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
Rest in peace, Justice Scalia. Thank you for your great service to our country.
